Henry Art Museum. Founded in 1927, the Henry Art Gallery was Washington’s first public art museum. The museum offers a wide range of permanent collections and rotating exhibitions of modern works of art, from the mid-19th century to the present with mediums that range from traditional paintings to photography to textiles. www.henryart.org Hiram J. Chittenden “Ballard” Locks. As a link for boats entering Lake Union from the Puget Sound, the Ballard locks are literally an elevator system that lifts all shapes and sizes of boats up from the Puget Sound, safely depositing them into the fresh waterways. Windows at the locks also allow visitors to watch salmon swimming up the fish ladders to reach their spawning grounds.
